COLLIDE:
NIGHTLIFE BEFORE DARK
Collide is an all-evening event co-hosted by Studio ZX and FANTOM, intended to serve as a shared and open space for the many scenes that make up Montreal nightlife to meet, find common ground, and build lasting ties of solidarity—regardless of experience level or other barriers.
With members of FANTOM, Studio ZX, and MTL24/24’s Night Council present, our goal is for Collide to act as a bridge between Montreal’s nightlife communities and the organizations working to support and advocate for them.

︎︎︎ WHY COLLIDE
Respondents to FANTOM's survey of over 100 predominantly queer, trans, and/or BIPOC underground nightlife organizers, artists, workers, and participants, as well as participants follow-up consultations, broadly spoke to the need for more events for nightlife workers outside of nightlife to build community and solidarity, in particularly providing opportunities for equity-seeking groups to build networks and support professionalization.
As a partial response to these stated needs, in June and August 2023, FANTOM piloted a new event series called Collide, intended to serve as a shared and open space for the many scenes that make up Montreal nightlife to meet, find common ground, and build lasting ties of solidarity—regardless of experience level or other barriers. With members of FANTOM, Studio ZX, and MTL24/24’s Night Council to be in attendance, Collide was conceived as a bridge between Montreal’s nightlife communities and the organizations working to support and advocate for them.
The event provides a space for 8-10 DJs to showcase their work to an audience that includes their peers as well as those with access to key resources and opportunities - nightlife bookers, funders, organizers, etc. Additionally, a number of speakers are selected at each event to speak briefly on how their work connects with the wider nightlife community, including the artists and workers present.
